Trauma is when you are exposed to a traumatic or stressful event(s) and you experience negative emotions such as feeling sad, angry, or ashamed. Traumatic events can include experiences of violent crimes, war, sexual violence, abuse, natural disasters, serious medical conditions, among others. Trauma has both psychological and physiological effects such as having flashbacks, or distressing dreams and/or memories related to the traumatic event.
