OUR TELEHEALTH STORY
The winter of 2018 was filled with very cold temperatures and lots of snow. CARE had many clients unable to attend much needed appointments due to being unable to make it to the clinic or felt it was unsafe to travel to the clinic. Common Questions about Telehealth
Does Telehealth Work? Yes, it has been shown to be equally effective to in person therapy. It certainly feels different, but sometimes access and convenience have to trump ‘perfect’.
Does my insurance provider cover telehealth? If the provider (in this case CARE Counseling) knows what they are doing this is typically a yes. We are actually credentialed for telehealth for all major insurance panels so your coverage shouldn’t change in a post-COVID world like it may at many clinics. Give us a call and we can have our billing partner check prior to your first session.
What’s it like doing Telehealth in a house full of kids? It can definitely be tough, and it is also important for you to find space and time for your mental health, which can be a challenge when space seems to be shrinking. Telehealth enables you to be mobile and efficient, and the CARE team is here to support when, where, and how it works best.
How can telehealth work when I can barely get space? When space feels limited, getting creative and flexible about space can feel daunting. Take an adventure by exploring your home and surrounding areas for private nooks and cranny’s, you may be surprised on where you find. Schedule your session during a time of day when the house is most quiet, such as early morning, nap times, or by creating a designated headphone hour for all those in the home. Play music or white noise near to reduce the transmission of your voice from your secure space.
How can I work on parenting? At CARE Counseling we understand how important parenting is to you. CARE Clinicians are well versed in parenting strategies and can support you in recognizing your strengths and enhancing these to become the parent you strive to be. Telehealth from home can even facilitate real-time learning experiences to try out new skills and strategies.
Is there anything I can do to bring my family closer together in this time? Cultivating moments of meaningful connection will be important while your family adjusts to a new normal. We all have an opportunity to get creative on how we connect, and this can be a way we come together stronger. Creating new daily and weekly practices could be fruitful, such as family moto’s, check in’s, sharing what is going well and bright spots of the day, finding humor in circumstances, sending inspirational quotes, sharing old photos of fond memories, making games out of cleaning, leaving each other thoughtful notes, generating a gratitude list together, and so on. One crucial aspect of this journey with your family will be taking care of yourself along the way.
